Tandem Reactions Yield Spiro Products
A simple one-pot process involving treatment of cyclohexanone and a diene with a diamine and MOM chloride yields the spiro compounds shown below (Nakamura H et al, Chem Commun, 2002, 1648). With isoprene, a mixture of isomers is obtained. A suggested mechanism is shown below.
