The groups of Hayashi atKyoto and Carreira in Switzerland have pioneered the use of chiral diene catalysts, mostly based on bicyclic systems, such as bicyclo[2.2.1]heptadienes and bicyclo[2.2.2]octadienes and related systems. Catalysts derived from these systems are useful in the addition of reagents, such as boronic acids to electron-deficient olefins. This area has recently beem reviewed (Shintani R et al, Aldrichimica Acta, Vol 42(2), 2009, 31-38.
