Construction of 3,4,5 Trisubstituted Pyridines

The 3,4,5-substitution pattern in pyridines occurs frequently in pharmaceutically-active molecules, but is not easy to synthesise. A new procedure begins with Baylis Hillman adducts and converts them in 3 simple steps to pyridines. (Park D Y et al, Tetrahedron Letters, 2005, 46, 8799-8803).
