Paul Knochel and his group continue to find better ways of generating Grignard reagents, the latest development being the discovery that lithium chloride significantly increases the rate of bromine-magnesium exchange in aryl and heteroaryl systems. The new reagent, iPrMgCl.LiCl, can be prepared either by adding iPrCl to Mg turnings and LiCl in THF, or by adding iPrMgCl in THF to LiCl.
