Jonathan Percy began his training in chemistry at Imperial College,
moving to study for a PhD at the University Chemical
Laboratory/University of Cambridge, and producing a Thesis entitled
'Structure and Efficiency in Intramolecular General Species Catalysis'
with Professor A J Kirby FRS.
Following a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the same laboratory (working on solid state structure/ reactivity relationships), Jonathan took up a Temporary Lectureship in Organic Chemistry at the University of Durham where his interests in fluorine chemistry began to develop.
Following a short return to physical organic chemistry at ICI (Blackley), Jonathan became a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Keele University, then moved to the University of Birmingham. In 2001, he took up a Research Chair in chemistry at the University of Leicester, and recently (2006) moved to the University of Strathclyde. Jonathan's research interests lie in the synthesis of selectively fluorinated molecules, and in aspects of their mechanistic chemistry and behaviour in the presence of biological systems.
